We don’t exaggerate when we affirm the above, and that these three elements are nothing more and nothing less than the body, the mind and the spirit. Therefore, you must keep in mind that you are more than a reflection in the mirror, you are a unique mixture of energies, personality, prejudices, intentions and everything that constitutes an entity.
It’s so important to know about it, because these elements are intimately linked and interdependent, they are incorporated and intertwined to create the human being, each one being a real work of creation, that will lead you to achieve a full life, however, their care and evolution depend mainly on you.
Our Body is the first of the elements, is our bridge that communicates to our mind with reality, the body is the tool that we use to translate our ideas into facts, is what connects us and allows us to interact with our surroundings, to looking for information, to work, to feel, is where our receivers with whom we hear, smell, see, feel and test; The phrase that reads «Your body is your Temple» is well known, therefore, being the place where our mind and spirit reside, it must be cared for and used appropriately or we will only see it worn down and shorten our life expectancy.
We must give him the respect he deserves, being part of us we should treat him with love and granting what he needs to stay lasting and healthy, because that is where we will live until the end of our life.
“Your body is a temple of nature and the divine spirit. Keep it healthy; respect it; study it; grant your rights”. – Henri Frederic Amiel
With regard to the Mind, the second of the elements, much has been written about it, being so complex to understand that even after centuries of studies devoted to it, we have only theories, but none represents an absolute truth. Despite all this, we have basic concepts about the mind, which tell us that is what allows us to analyze the stimuli we receive from outside, everything that captures our senses, reaches the brain and translate it into actions. The mind allows us to analyze, think, have ideas, study, learn, grow, evolve, is what we use to evaluate and give to the simplest order.
This is why it is essential to have a healthy mind in order to have a lasting and healthy life, because it’s responsible for our decision making, how we deal with our problems, how we want to live our lives. It’s important to learn how to use it efficiently and not let it use us, because we are not just a mind, we are a body and a spirit that must work in harmony so that none of the three is overshadowed by the other.
“The brain is not a glass to fill, but a lamp to ignite”. – Plutarch
As for the Spirit, our last of the elements, many wonder if it really exists… To give an accurate answer to this, we must ask another question; Do I want to have a spirit? This question must be asked to understand that the spirit is something that must be accepted, developed and trained over the years.
If our body is the one who receives the information, it is our mind who translates it and reacts to it, the spirit is affected in the moments that cannot be thought, those first reactions of happiness or sadness in which nothing goes through our mind , are only fractions of seconds before the first thought arises but in those fractions is where our spirit resides, the one that paralyzes the heart before a bad news, the one that bristles our skin in front of a hot coffee in the mornings, which impels us to get up when we are on the ground before we even realize that we had fallen.
That is the spirit, which allows us to feel and act even without thinking, that which is as natural to us as breathing, is what keeps us going when the body feels that it can no longer and the mind only repeats «I cannot», our most basic instincts are linked to our spirit because they are something that goes beyond consciousness, this is why we must train it and make it flow in harmony with our body and mind, in order to avoid only being guided by instincts, but also to be able to go beyond what our body and mind believe are capable.
“The spirit is a simple, undivided and active being: as soon as it perceives the ideas it is called understanding; and as soon as it produces and operates on them, it is called will”. – George Berkeley
Caring and cultivating these three elements consciously, you’ll see that life will begin to make you happier and experience a fuller existence.
